Kamala Harris Trolls Trump With Fox News Interview Ratings on Truth Social

Vice President Kamala Harris taunted former President Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social, highlighting that her recent Fox News interview garnered more than double his ratings on the same day.

On Wednesday, both Harris and Trump appeared in separate interviews on the network. Harris and Fox News host Bret Baier engaged in an at times charged exchange, while Trump participated in a town hall with women voters in Georgia.

On Thursday, Harris’ official campaign account posted a split image showing Harris smiling in front of two microphones and Trump appearing fatigued. The caption above their heads read: “Harris on Fox yesterday: 7.1 million viewers. Trump on Fox yesterday: 3 million viewers.” Harris’ campaign captioned the post, “have you seen this, @realdonaldtrump?”

Newsweek has reached out to Trump’s campaign for comment via email on Friday.

The numbers are based off Nielson Media Research data published by Fox News. Harris’ interview with Baier was the most-watched interview of the 2024 election season, and the top program on cable news on Wednesday.

Trump, the Republican nominee, has often praised the outlet and been welcomed by many of its hosts, while Harris is frequently criticized on the network. Daytime programming typically draws fewer viewers than evening shows, and Trump appears on Fox News regularly, especially compared to Harris, for whom this was her first appearance on the network.

In early 2022, Trump created Truth Social after he was banned from a number of other social media platforms for violating their rules moments ahead of the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. Twitter removed him “due to the risk of further incitement of violence.”

He has since been allowed back on X, formerly Twitter, but he most often posts on Truth Social. The platform prides itself on protecting free speech and having less moderation and restrictions than other mainstream platforms.

While Harris, the Democratic nominee, and her campaign mainly communicate on other mainstream social media platforms, they have started posting on Trump’s site more frequently, and almost always tag the former president.

In another post mocking the former president on Friday, Harris’ campaign, wrote “You good @realdonaldtrump?” with a picture of Trump appearing fatigued and the headline of a Politico article: “An ‘exhausted’ Trump says no to another interview.”

Trump’s national press secretary Karoline Leavitt denied that he was exhausted in a statement to Politico’s Playbook, saying: “President Trump is running laps around Kamala Harris on the campaign trail,” adding, “and has done media interviews every day this week. He has more energy and a harder work ethic than anyone in politics.”

Opponents of the candidates have criticized their media appearances, with many faulting Harris for not making enough appearances and others criticizing Trump for canceling his.

Harris has ramped up her campaign along with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, with podcast tapings, a one-on-one chat with Oprah, and late-night show slots. Trump, meanwhile, this week canceled interviews with CNBC and NBC News.

With Election Day just a little over two weeks away, most state and national polls show a narrow margin between the Republican and Democratic nominees, with leads fluctuating within the margin of error. Most polling aggregates show Harris narrowly leading Trump.

However, to win the presidency, a candidate must secure 270 electoral votes distributed among the states, which doesn’t always align with the national popular vote. State-specific victories are essential for winning electoral votes, as demonstrated in the 2016 election, when former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the presidency by failing to reach 270 Electoral College votes.
